Bricks Fix NINE

Normally I am a big fan of mix match frames and images but I'm really drawn to white walls with black frames & matching black photographs and the great impact they have on a space. Although this is a post about the monochrome look, i do love the two images below and couldn't resist uploading them, it goes to show that you can frame "anything" whatever the style/size - whether you have found a nice fabric sample, wallpaper, a magazine cut out or a drawing, you really can have fun with this so start collecting and let your personality come out through your walls!

So it was after taking a trip to John Lewis today that I have completely fallen for "Gettyimages Gallery" collection of black and white photographs framed in a smart black frame...I'm especially obsessed with portraits of people, take a look at the some of the famous faces below... i want them all.

Create a display which is going to show off your fab photographs best - try using different sized frames but keep to the same thickness. Experiment with different layouts, depending on how many photographs you have, you may just want to create a small collage or if you have the space why not fill the whole wall, creating a photographic journey/gallery for your visitors.

You don't just have to use famous people but mix them up and use your very own photo's of family and friends!

Go go go create your story!

Marks&Spencer

i love it

After a wander today, I though id just show you my wish list, walked out with complete kitchen envy! I also got the chance to pick up a catalogue, again, styling job envy. I couldn't possibly post all even though I was tempted.

Crazy about colored glass at the moment and Marks have managed to fill the shelves with beautiful collections including vintage inspirations and block colours for their glass ware. Walking past the furniture section quickly as the Conran collaboration really left an ache, I just wanted to sit comfortably and people watch all day.

Marks and Spencer have their home week, 3rd-9th October a bonus 20% off home ware and 30% of selected furniture!

The opaque glass tumbler jug and the vintage inspired jug both made me smile, for some reason the tumbler reminded me of a milk mustache, am sure that wasnt the intention though! You need to go visit in store to see them all lined up.

Beautiful colours that stood out against their glass neighbours.

Colourful cooking! The kitchen is the heart of home as they say, where friends and family gather, perfect opportunity to show off some colour and style. Marks have beautiful dinning ware, the floral jug is from the Elizabeth range, perfect name for a very pretty range with must see dining plates. Its hard to commit to just one range, I say get a piece from all, love a miss match kitchen. Above the china you will find two tone cooking and serving dishes, check out the heart shaped casserole (Le Creuset). Beautiful.

Conran collaboration

Teals, mustards, plums, greens and greys, grown up colours that make a room fun, young and stylish. Featured in oxford streets window display, this is what pulled me in. As soon as I reached the top of the escalator I met the Marlowe armchair in plum, I love her, she comes in 14 other colours too including ocher and teal. Have a look for yourself online at www.marksandspencer.com.

Get the feel of the outdoors with touchy-feely textures, animal/insect motifs and earthy warm tones to style your living space. Deep purples work great alongside green, or for a more subtle look try tree patterned wallpapers to add that forest depth (both the images of wallpaper above and below are from Next). Check out Dwell for vibrant insect cushions, which bring to life the not so obvious beauty of bugs... Create a real focal point with a staghead, you can find them in a range of different colours - go bold! and look great on a patterned wallpaper or if this is too daring the antler tree is a great alternative and will add instant character to any space.

Both the black leaf and mirrored candle holders from Dwell create that magical woodland glow, perfect for creating that soft ambience for autumn nights.

This look is all about texture and tones - create soft interiors with chunky knitted throws, as well as fur and feathers, try the faux pheasant feather cushion from Dwell. Use these textures against solid wood, leather and stone to create warmth.... its all about layering!!

Wherever you place the three decorative ceramic mushrooms or the mushroom candle holders from Dwell, they are sure to bring a sense of fun. Fallen in love with this art nouveau style peacock mirror from Next, be inspired - add accessories using luxurious colours like emerald greens and rich teals.

WOW... after all this inspiration hunting I would love a log cabin holiday, purrrlease!

Not the biggest fan of room dividers, why would you want to cut a space in half unless you really needed too.  If you was going to create new spaces you definitely have to include these on your list of options..
Ixxi have created a simple way of connecting images together to make room dividers or wall decorations. You can personalise your art, use your own images or use colour cards to create a photo collages. They are such a clever and beautiful idea!

Yes to this "wallpaper" you could even find your own collection of items to display as ixxi go all out with personalised hangings, depending on your space use, why not mix it up abit.

Would love to add my own illustrations, mini chalk boards?????? I need to make my own connections!!  The synthetic material provides a washable surface, that is moist resistant, useable in any room.

A new blind? A new wall? A versatile art piece to bring a smile to every room. Translucent? Graphic? Colour? a message? Why do they not use these in hospitals! What will you use to make a connection.

Bringing to life our obsession with words...

Add some fun to your décor by trying Liz Foster's and Johnnys Sisters letter cushions to brighten up your sofa or bed! Be creative and use them to spell a word, name, initials or have lots of different letters!

Also why not try making your very own scrabble picture, using the scrabble to spell phrases or personal messages. Pick a fabric or a patterned paper to create a background for your letters, finish off with a frame placing it either on a wall with a collection of frames or sitting nicely on a shelf. Making your own is great as it allows you to experiment with your own personal style! Don’t be afraid to go bold, vintage floral patterns work great!

Encourage individuality and a unique wall display by grouping together a collection of letters. Mix and match to suit your style. Make a statement by playing with different scale, turn some of the letters on their side – experiment! Hunt for letters in antique shops, and the internet is great, try Bombay Duck and Not on the high street.

Select meaningful initials and try hanging them from the wall in an empty frame, allowing the wall colour to show through. Quirky and adds instant character! Check out the fun initial coat hooks and candle stick holders from The Letterroom too.

As well as making wall features, you can use letters scattered around your home. Add to your shelf of nik naks or even on the fireplace, the more cluttered the more interesting. Try your local craft shop to buy your own letters, decorate with patterned paper, spray paint or even use a fabric + glue! Be creative with where you place your letter, be bold!

I love words, especially when used in a creative (& cheeky) setting. Whether made from wood, aluminium, ceramic, stainless steel…they instantly look great wherever they are placed - on the wall, on a door, on a bookshelf or somewhere not so expecting…

Have fun when choosing your words, although the white coloured wording looks great on the white wall don’t be afraid to add some bold colours to your space… draw attention! Check out the “LOVE” in Next.
